220 kv substation Kundara is the main center of the electricity Transmission network of Kollam District. It is connected to other important stations of Kerala including Edamon and Pallom. It was commissioned on 1/05/2006.
The station was initially constructed as a 66 kv substation and later upgraded into 100 kv and the to 100 kv.
It was one of the first eight substations commissioned in erstwhile Travancore along with the construction of 66 kv line to Trivandrum. The Pallivasal Generating station and the 66 kv subsations at Alappuzha, Mavelikara, Kothamangalam, Kundara, Kalamassery, Viyyur, Aluva, and Thiruvananthapuram. were commissioned in 1940.
Later the main networks were upgraded to 220 kv and 400 kv was introduced to accomodate the inter state power transmission
